Carol was sitting in her living room, feverishly crocheting a blanket she had promised someone for Christmas – in 2015. She was on the next to last row when she noticed a horrible screeching sound at her door.
“What could that be?” She wondered to herself as she returned to her project.
However, the sound just kept getting louder and louder – until she couldn’t ignore it any longer.
Sighing, she went to the door and flung it open. The sight she found there left her momentarily speechless.
“Garn? Is that you?” She finally asked. “What are you doing here?”
Garn paused in mid screech. “I am spreading holiday cheer, of course!”
“Uh, okay? And how are you doing that?” She asked.
“Why, I donned my gay apparel, and I am singing songs of joy, of course!”
Carol studied her friend closely. “So that’s why you are dressed like that.”
Garn puffed out his chest – which was currently covered in a fluorescent yellow shirt that he’d paired with bright pink pants. “This is the brightest thing I own. Very festive if I have to say so myself.”
“Uh, huh. And you were singing?”
“Oh course! It’s a lovely song of peace and hope that I learned on Yargon-IV.”
“That’s the place where people get chased by a fire-breathing lizard for fun, right?”
“Well, the holiday is a little more complex than that. In fact – there is a traditional ballad explaining it that I could sing for you.” He offered cheerfully.
“Uh – maybe some other time.” Carol said hastily. “Uh would you like to come in since you’re here?”
“Maybe later. With your planet being in such turmoil, I really feel as if I should spread cheer to as many people as possible.”
Carol thought longingly of her nice, warm home – and almost finished crocheting project. But then she thought of her neighbors – who weren’t quite as accustomed to Garn as she was.
With a sigh, she grabbed her coat and a mask and stepped outside. “Why don’t I go caroling with you? I can teach you a few Earth songs, okay?”
Garn clapped his hands with glee. “Splendid – and then we can have cocoa – with those tiny marshmallows!”
Happy Thursday, Friends!
