Gral Tries to Stage an Intervention

Gral knocked on the door of the small earth dwelling.  There was no answer, but he was known as ‘Gral the Stalwart’ for good reason.  He knocked again, louder this time, and was rewarded by a muffled ‘Go away!’

“Is that anyway to greet an old friend, Garn?” He said in his deep, deep voice.  “People are worried about you.”

There was muted cursing on the other side of the door, but after long moments, it swung open to a shocking sight.

“Lords of Chaos!”  Gral exclaimed.  “What have you done to yourself?”  Garn was usually most fastidious about his appearance – so this was a side he’d never seen of his friend.  Messy hair, untrimmed mustache and… “What are you wearing?!”

Garn brushed some crumbs off his shirt and drew himself up to his full height.  “They are called sweats and they are most comfortable.”  Garn grudgingly opened the door wider and allowed Gral to enter.  “Why are you here?” He grumbled.

“You have missed your last three check-ins and your portal reservation off Earth.  People are worried.”  And annoyed, if Gral were to be honest.

“There is a contagion going on,” Garn pointed out.  “It’s not safe to venture outdoors.”

“That wouldn’t prevent you from answering your link,” Gral pointed out, not unkindly.  “Besides, though the virus is quite serious, many Earth venues are opening – as long as people take basic safety precautions, like wearing masks and hand washing.”

“I hate it when you’re logical,” Garn grumbled.

“It’s a wide Universe, my friend,” Gral rumbled.  “Which begs the question – why did you miss your portal reservation to Talon III?  Duty calls.”  And if Garn missed another check-in, he’d be the one going to the frozen planet.

Garn’s response was so muffled, Gral had to strain to hear.  “What was that?”

“I said that I don’t want to miss my shows,” Garn said with great dignity.  “Talon III does not have Netflix.”

“Hmmm,” Gral mused.  “I don’t know what that is.”

So that’s how Gral and Garn ended up binge watching ‘Tiger King.’  The Universe is still waiting for their presence.

Happy Thursday, Friends!

Thanks, Carol. I’m glad Garn found another friend to watch Netflix with.
